The Ford Atlas Concept has been making the rounds at Auto Shows wowing the crowds and giving people a glimpse into the future of Ford Trucks. The innovative Ford Atlas displays the future of design, fuel efficiency and intelligent technologies that could find their way into the next generation of Ford Trucks. The full size truck market is ultra competitive and even though the Ford F-Series has been the best selling truck in America for 36 years running, Ford is not resting on its laurels.
Ford Atlas Fuel Efficiency
The Ford Atlas Concept utilizes advanced fuel saving technologies to deliver more power and performance without sacrificing fuel economy. The Atlas offers an enhanced Auto Stop-Start technology that shuts off the engine when the truck is stopped in traffic unless the truck is towing in which case it suspends the feature. Some of the other fuel saving techniques include active grille shutters and active wheel shutters that improve the aerodynamics at highway speeds. An additional aerodynamic feature is the drop down front air dam that lowers at highway speeds to improve the under body air flow.
Ford Atlas Cargo Flexibility
The Ford Atlas Concept also includes some convenient features to help you get the most out of the trucks cargo and hauling capability. Expanding upon the Tailgate Step the new Atlas features a Dual Purpose Tailgate Step and Cargo Cradle. It functions much like the current tailgate step but also can be used to cradle a ladder safely and securely for transport. Another impressive feature built into the Atlas Concept are the hidden cargo ramps. These lightweight but durable ramps can be stored under the cargo box and quickly set up to help you load items like lawn mowers and four wheelers.
Ford Atlas Towing
Another smart technology getting plenty of attention is the Dynamic Hitch Assist system. This system helps drivers hitch up to a trailer with visual marks on the center display screen. The Ford Atlas Concept includes new LED headlamps, taillamps, cargo box and side mirror lighting. The headlamps and taillamps improve your driving visibility and the ability of others to see you. The LED cargo box lights offer plenty of light to help you unload after dark and efficient consumption of battery power over standard plug in lights.
Future of Ford Trucks
The future of Ford Trucks looks just as bright as the legendary history of the best selling truck in America has experienced. It will be some time before we see how much of the Ford Atlas Concept’s features and technology find their way into the production of 2014 and 2015 Ford F-Series trucks.
